Do you go the extra mile?

Articles and videos on the internet would lead you to believe the younger generations are against such behavior.  I’m not sure a blanket statement can be made for any generation.  Painting everyone within a generation with the same broad brush would be inaccurate.

I have seen instances where these younger generations have confessed to not going the extra mile (e.g. quiet quitting).  They make it sound like “the man” is trying to extort some type of illegal activity from them or take advantage of them.  I’m not saying working long hours for consecutive weeks, something that is unsustainable.

I think it needs to be reframed as having a good work ethic.  If you are just looking to get by in life, doing the bare minimum will get you there.  But wouldn’t you rather be known for excellence, above average, and noteworthy performance.  Reviewing Matthew 5:41 and what it means may be helpful.

Experiences on the job, no matter what type of job, cannot be taught in school.  View it as a learning opportunity as opposed to a paycheck and can’t wait until my shift is over.  As Wayne Dyer said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

A resume only tells part of the story.  The people you work with and for, tell the other part.  What would they say about you and your work ethic.

Think in terms of adding value.  How can I make things better for the customer, company, process, or overall experience.  This in turn, will increase sales, customer retention, morale, and most likely your pay and possibilities.

As Zig Ziglar said, “Do more than you are being paid to do, and you’ll eventually be paid more for what you do.”
